Note the NOT: As of April 1st, I’ve decided this post is obsolete. I’m keeping my baby. It still has under 100,000 miles–that’s less than the new FJ Cruiser I just bought–and I’ll never enjoy a car more than I have the Datsun. When IT goes, I’ll likely be gone first. So … to those who’ve envied the car, I’m sorry. I’m cruising to the lake soon and I can’t think of a better way to make that summer drive.
(The following is the original post)
I’ve wrestled with this decision for a couple of years now, but it’s time to sell my sweet 1977 Datsun 810 wagon. I’ve driven it from shore to shore and over boarders. It’s carried me and my cameras, golf clubs and many friends to more fun times than any other car I can recall. It’s unique. It’s reliable. It gets over 20 miles per gallon and I’ve never had more people admire a car of mine more.
But I now live at 7,200 foot elevation, and I have no garage to keep her safe during the winter months. With a new paint job last year I decided to drive to California, take out an eBay ad and allow someone with good taste and hopefully good care, to provide this deserving car with a new home.
I’d love it if one of my readers here would adopt, but I’m leaving it to fate. I bought the car from a good friend who bought it from a good friend who bought if from two little old ladies who kept it in a garage for nearly 30 years. It’s been loved and well cared for and if I didn’t need 4wheel drive, I’d have a surf board and my fishing pole strapped up top but alas, I’ve acquired a new FJ Cruiser and with some reluctance, I’m saying ‘good-bye’ to my baby.
For those watching on eBay and those bidding, I hope the following photos help you decide whether she’s worth it to you. She’s not perfect, but far from a liability. For what I’m asking, I doubt you could acquire a more dependable, fun car to drive with lots of miles left to go …

Pass the word, share the love. I hope she finds a good home.
Cheers and happy travels.
